Located in and around the outskirts of Bolton near to Manchester, Lancashire, The Ironman UK returns for another year, and with 50 Age Group qualifying slots for the 2012 World Championships in Kona Hawaii up for grab's, the UK event continues to offer a world class event and field, located in the heart of the beautiful North West Countryside.
With great local support and a stunning Town Centre Finish the start of the race a two-loop swim takes place in Leigh which is followed by a spectacular bike course starting from transition 1 again in Leigh leading through some beautiful British countryside. Early on in the bike there's a good climb, which is followed by some fast descents.
The rest of the course is rolling, with some technical turns to keep you on your toes as you pedal through some picturesque British villages. The run course is a point-to-point affair that loops back towards transition 2 in Horwich before sending the athletes off to an incredible finish line set up next to the historic Bolton Town Hall.
